John McGinn may have stolen the headlines with his hat-trick against San Marino on Sunday evening but it was Celtic’s Ryan Christie who also emerged with a lot of the credit for Scotland’s play.
The standard of opposition may not have been great but Christie still displayed an admirable work rate and intensity that led to the creation of several chances at Hampden Park.
On a night in which Scotland had little to gain, Christie came out with credit to his name and a match rating of 6.89/10 on the BBC Sport website put him as Scotland’s third-best player.
Indeed, he finished the match with two assists and one secondary assist, as Scotland enjoyed the vast majority of possession including corners and set-pieces which had been left to the Celtic man to deliver.
Scotland and Celtic fans took to Twitter to praise the midfielder’s performance on a rain-soaked night at Hampden.
Ryan Christie surely cemented his place in the team. Top performance from him.

FT Scotland 6-0 San Marino. can’t criticise a 6-0 win but it has to come with the caveat of quality of opponent. hopefully Clarke has learned a couple of things. namely you cant be leaving Ryan Christie out of your team on current form.. and Shankland deserves to start in Cyprus

Steve Clark must have realised that Callum Mcgregor was hopeless taking corners and free kicks. Ryan Christie’s corners and free kicks were brilliant . someone tell James Forrest the words of Flower of Scotland. He never sings it.🏴
