The Birmingham City supporters have gathered here in the Transfer Tavern for an evening celebration after the news that manager Gianfranco Zola has resigned from his role in the aftermath of a 2-0 home reverse to Burton Albion.
BBC Sport confirmed the news this evening, leading to several Blues supporters rushing to the landlord’s bar to crack open the bubbly and start the celebrations.
The Blues fans had been disgusted with their team’s form under the Italian’s stewardship, with the former Watford manager overseeing just two victories in 24 games at the helm.
Birmingham are 20th in the Sky Bet Championship just three points clear of the relegation zone and Zola has opted to walk away with the club having just three games left during the campaign.
One Blues supporter is enjoying a glass of celebratory bubbly this evening and he thinks that it serves the club’s board right, stating that previous boss Gary Rowett should never have been sacked in the first place.
Birmingham City fans, who should get the job next? Let us know in the comments below!!!
