With the proposed summer clear-out at Stamford Bridge, rumoured to see the back of Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda, it’s clear that Roman Abramovich and Carlo Ancelotti (if he’s still there) will need to invest in the squad if they are to make any impact on the league next season.
It seems that the Blues are pinning their hopes on a Spanish striker. No, not that one! They are rumoured to be considering a move for Real Madrid’s Under 19s star, Alvaro Morata. According to the Daily Mirror, Morata’s contract has a £10 million buy out clause that has alerted Chelsea to his potential as the long-term replacement for the striking talent on it’s way this summer.
The 18 year old has only made one appearance for the Real first team, but has impressed with his goals in the Real Madrid B side, scoring 12 in 23 appearances. He sounds like an exciting proposition, and lets be honest £10 million is smal change for Abramovic. A move for the youngster would also signal Chelsea’s intent to sign younger talent next season, as their ageing squad becomes depleted in August.
Nothing is confirmed as of yet, but the writers at the Mirror seem to think that Chelsea are extremely interested in the youngster, and have identified him a serious target when the transfer window opens.
