Blimey! I haven’t seen Darren Lewis, of the Daily Mirror, in the ‘Football Transfer Tavern’ for a while but he has just pulled up a bar stool and asked for everyone to crowd round him because he has news, and he has warned Tottenham Hotspur fans that it’s not good.
Darren told us that Tottenham thought they were in pole position to sign Botafogo’s Brazilian defender Doria however; Darren has news that Chelsea have now made an enquiry for the highly-rated 18-year-old.
Doria has a release fee clause of £11.2 million and is in demand not only from the Premier League clubs but also European giants Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan.
Darren is about to tell us more when a punter, in a Spurs top, begins quietly sobbing into his hands and mumbling: “If it’s not Bale, it is something else”.
Anyway, Darren eventually continued and informed us that Botafogo President Maurico Assumpcao expects to lose Doria this summer transfer window, he said:
“Right now I can’t guarantee that Doria will stay. Negotiations will depend on whether clubs pay his buy-out fee.
“Whoever wants him will need to pay more than just that value. If that happens, we don’t have control.
“It will be the player’s decision.
“He, his agent and family are considering their options, but nothing is set in stone.”
