For the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, Philippe Coutinho is irreplaceable…
The Brazilian has been key over the last few years, and last season was no different. If anything, under Jurgen Klopp the Brazilian has gotten even better, and the Reds’ success next season will largely depend upon his form.
However, there is a genuine fear amongst the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern that time is running out at Anfield for Coutinho. Barcelona are said to be interested, and – at least according to Sky Sports – it isn’t looking very good for the Reds.
Sky Sports are reporting that Barcelona are confident that they will secure a deal for Coutinho this summer, with a fee of around £89 million expected to be enough to get a deal done.
Liverpool are, clearly, hesitant to sell the Brazilian – but when talking about a fee of nearly £90 million, it may be far too much for the Reds to turn down. When you add in Coutinho’s own desires, which could well be to move, they may have little choice but to cave in.
It’s going to be a very important few weeks for Liverpool, particularly if he leaves.
Coutinho is a genuinely irreplaceable player in the Liverpool midfield, but a move away simply cannot be ruled out. Jurgen Klopp needs to be assessing potential replacement options because they can’t afford to be left short this summer.
The Reds were hesitant to sell Luis Suarez a few years ago, and look how that turned out. Klopp simply cannot rest upon his laurels.
That said, it’s going to be very tough to replace Coutinho if he does leave, and certainly, the club should look to hold on to him this summer if they can.
