Coyle’s £7M Survival Kitty: Tottenham & Zulte Waregem Raids Imminent

With Bolton Wanderers sitting just one point off the bottom of the Premier League, it’s no surprise that manager Owen Coyle is looking to strengthen his squad this month.

Coyle has at least £7million to spend after the departure of Gary Cahill, and The Mirror has reported this week that Tottenham outcast Giovani Dos Santos is Bolton’s top target.

It is thought that although Bolton have offered around £4million, Tottenham are looking for a figure closer to £7million for a player who has only made four appearances in the Premier League this season.

Dos Santos was one of the most highly sought-after youngsters in Europe a few years ago, but his career at Tottenham has stalled and Coyle will hope he can persuade the Mexican attacker to stay in England.

As well as Dos Santos, Bolton are also looking to tighten up their defence with the signing of Remi Mareval from Belgian side Zulte Waregem. The Daily Star reports that Mareval could move to the Reebok Stadium for around €800,000.

Coyle will also look to bolster a defence which has conceded 46 goals – the highest in the Premier League – with the imminent arrival of USA international Tim Ream.

Coyle told the Press Association: “The deal is close but we need everything in place before we can announce it.”

It is no wonder that Bolton are wasting little time in improving their squad. With 17 games left, they face quite a battle if they are to avoid a surprise relegation this season.
