CSKA Moscow allegedly rejected a ‘significant offer’ from Crystal Palace for striker Fedor Chalov.

It must have been Palace’s last attempt to sign the Russian International – who scored 17 goals last term (Sport Witness) – considering that there have been numerous bids rejected and that Roy Hodgson has confirmed that there will be no more incomings this window, according to Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge.
Roy Hodgson tells me no more signings at Palace but Zaha is STAYING. Interview next on @SkySportsNews

Palace could live to regret not getting another centre-forward in, as their problems are there for all to see.
Considering that the club’s top-scoring striker last season in Michy Batshuayi (five goals) has returned to his parent club Chelsea, it makes it clear that there is a big void in Palace’s attack. Out of their current strikers – Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew, Connor Wickham – only two goals were scored.
According to a scout report from Total Football Analysis, Chalov provides a lot of qualities that could suit Palace’s game. He has been noted as a clinical finisher – something which Palace have been missing since Benteke’s opening season at the club, where he scored 15 goals in the Premier League (Transfermarkt). Also, his link-up play has been noted, with the report explaining his ability at coming short as well as getting in behind.
That link-up play could have been vital at Palace to help get the most out of the aforementioned wingers and to help contribute to the goal tally. According to WhoScored, he’s currently averaging 2.3 key passes per game in the Russian Premier League. To put that into context, no one in the Eagles’ squad last season averaged more.
The report adds that “his ability to come short, run in behind, or act as a reference point for his midfielders to play off, has helped make CSKA unpredictable this season”.
It’s hard to fathom why Palace have not gone in for another striker, considering it has been abundantly clear that they needed to get another face in.
Palace now have to compete with the options of Jordan Ayew, Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham until January, which could be a big problem considering the two latter players have had big injury problems.
