Davy Klaassen could have come good with more time at Everton

Everton haven’t had a great pre-season but a late flurry of transfer activity has lead fans to believe their season is still full with potential under Marco Silva.

The former Watford man was the manager Everton have been vocal in trying to bring to Goodison Park and now finally they have.

In what could turn out to be a great move or a disaster, Silva has brought in a number of exciting players that could allow Everton to challenge again for Europe.

Last season was a complete rollercoaster that somehow Everton finished 8th in, even considering how badly they played at times. They spent around £150 million that summer, with one of their signings being Davvy Klaassen.

The Dutchman was very highly rated and arrived at Goodison Park on the back of a brilliant season for Ajax, where they even made the Europa League final. Klaassen made 50 appearances that year, providing a staggering 20 goals and 12 assists from central-midfield, so no wonder Everton really did their best to sign him.

However all the hype quickly faded as Klaassen made 17 appearances last season, scoring zero goals and providing just one assist in that time.

It is hard to argue a player turns badly after one season so despite how poorly he did play last season, Klaassen should have been given another chance under new boss Marco Silva to impress the Goodison Park faithful.

Having been so good for Ajax, his time in the Premier League will only be remembered as the time he flopped with Everton.

This could be a transfer they regret having just seen the Dutchman join Bundesliga club Werder Bremen. The Toffees really shouldn’t be surprised if he does impress in Germany and maybe, just maybe, he could have been like a new signing under Marco Silva.
