Tottenham centre-back Sebastian Bassong is apparently considering his options at White Hart Lane, according to the News of the World. The Cameroon international has only made 11 appearances this season for Tottenham, and the 24 year old is reportedly keen on a move away from the club in a bid to find some first team football.
Bassong joined Spurs after an impressive 2 seasons at Newcastle, costing £8 million. It’s likely that the canny Harry Redknapp will attempt to make most of that money back. Bassong told the NOTW ‘It hurts being constantly overlooked. If I’m not playing for Tottenham, then maybe I am not much use to them.’
Bassong is clearly unhappy at White Hart Lane, and it’s likely that we could see him move on this summer. The question is, where? It’s possible that Bassong could stay in the Premiership, and move to Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal. He was linked with the Gunners during his time at Newcastle, and with their defensive issues and rumoured summer spending targets he could be top of Arsene Wenger’s wish list in August.
It appears more likely however that Bassong will move acorss the channel onto the continent. Shortly before the January transfer window opened, rumours were circulating about the French-born defender’s possible move to Paris Saint Germain. Bassong was said to favour a move back to Ligue 1, having started his career at FC Metz.
The final candidate for Bassong’s signature, is the German side Schalke 04. Although struggling in the Bundesliga, in a lowly 10th place, the Germans have managed to achieve a Champions League semi-final against Manchester United. Bassong will no doubt have noticed this, as Spurs crashed out of the tournament to Real Madrid. Whether or not he’d move to a club like Schalke 04 is another matter, but if they put the right offer in we could see him head to Germany in the summer.
