David Moyes will hope to put last weeks defeat at Blackburn behind him with a win on home soil. Everton’s first home game of the season should see the team replicate the form from the end of last season which caused Wenger and Ferguson to have the Toffees down as the surprise party poopers towards the top of the table. Expectations are high at Goodison Park this season, and Moyes will not take complacency from his players.
Though Louis Saha looks set to start as the lone striker, Jermaine Beckford will hope to make his home debut at some stage in the game which could provide the perfect premise to get his Everton career off to a flying start.
If Steven Fletcher can shrug off injury he will hope to emulate last weeks impressive debut performance in Wolves’ home win against Stoke. Mick McCarthy’s men are always up for a fight, ensuring that this will be a closer affair than Everton fans might hope. Kevin Doyle looks set for a return and will be the biggest striking threat for The Wanderers.
My prediction: Everton 2 – 1 Wolves
