The Sunderland fans who are gathered at the jukebox in The Transfer Tavern are discussing confirmation of a new player arrival at the club.
Sunderland have confirmed that they have signed former Arsenal and Galatasaray defender Emmanuel Eboue on a deal until the end of the season.
The Ivorian has been on trial with the Wearsiders for a couple of weeks and impressed manager Sam Allardyce enough to see himself offered a contract.
Eboue has a wealth of experience that will give more depth to the struggling Premier League sides defensive options as they battle for survival in the coming weeks.
Speaking about signing for Sunderland to the club’s official website, Eboue said “When I came here for the first time it felt like I’d been here already so I’m very happy to sign for the club.
“I was dreaming about it [returning to the Premier League] and thinking about it when I was in Turkey because I played here before, so I thank god, my new team-mates and also the staff and everybody else who took me in like a son.
“I also thank the manager who has given me a second chance, so I hope I can give my best for the club and also for him.”
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern thinks Eboue will add a steely determination to Sunderland’s back line and that he could prove the difference between the club staying up or going down!
As for the Sunderland fans they are delighted with the acquisition and believe that he is just the tonic the squad needs as they fight for their Premier League lives.
