Everton reject £28m double bid from United

Marouane FellainiManchester United have seen a £28million joint offer for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini rejected by Everton, according to BBC Sport.

Toffees supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been left dismayed by the reports emerging today that former manager David Moyes has returned to raid his former club and with a ‘derisory and insulting’ offer to boot.

United reportedly offered £16million for the Belgian international midfielder, while the Old Trafford club also returned with an identical offer of £12m for Baines as they had submitted back in June.

Everton have now released an official club statement on their website, saying: “Everton can confirm that it has received bids from Manchester United for two players. Those bids were immediately rejected out of hand as derisory and insulting.

The Club did not make public these details as it was vital Roberto Martinez’s preparations for the opening game of the Premier League season were not disrupted in anyway.”

Moyes is keen to put his mark on the United team he has inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson but has so far suffered a frustrating summer in the transfer market. The Scot lost out to Bayern Munich in their pursuit for Thiago Alcantara while top target Cesc Fabregas has decided to remain at the Camp Nou.

Felliani, 25, has now emerged as his major summer option as he seeks a reunion with the former Standard Liege midfielder at Old Trafford while Baines, 29, has been outlined as a replacement for Patrice Evra whose contract expires next summer.

But the reported offer will have created ill-felling on Merseyside and Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is likely to be furious with Moyes latest attempt to take away two of Roberto Martinez’s best players so close to the transfer window deadline and the Toffees continue to insist that they have no intention of selling either player this summer.
