Fiorentina star set to stay in Italy

In the Football Transfer Tavern at the minute, it seems many players are coming forward to signal their commitment to the current cause and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic is no different. According to ESPN the 22-year-old is determined to stay in Florence after assurances from the club over their future.

Jovetic had been heavily linked with a move away from his current club, however after speaking with the president and manager he is much more optimistic about his future in Italy. Jovetic said: “The president promised to make big signings so we’d challenge for Champions League qualification very soon.” The striker also claimed that he was ‘very happy’ in Italy and even if a move should come to pass, he would like to stay in the country as “I’ve been in Italy for five years and I’ve learned the language and local habits. Even if going abroad would be a new challenge, I would like to stay in Italy.”

Whilst we mull over the Viola’s genuine Champions League credentials over a game of pool it also comes to light that the player also knocked back approaches in the past. Jovetic disclosed that “I could’ve left Fiorentina as I had some big offers, but I decided to remain in Florence,” with the president keeping the promises he made to the club’s top scorer this season with Jovetic netting 6 times despite missing a month due to injury.
