Forget Alexander-Arnold: 62% of Liverpool fans want this player to start against Chelsea instead

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed by Trent Alexander-Arnold this season. The Englishman has enjoyed a breakout season at Anfield, and he’s arguably been one of their best players.

Filling in in a position that Jurgen Klopp has found tough to fill over the last few years, the Englishman has been a star on the right-hand side of the defence.

However, Nathaniel Clyne has returned to the fold over the last few weeks, and so Alexander-Arnold has a battle on his hands to retain his place in the squad.

Liverpool have got a huge game against Chelsea this weekend, and our resident Reds have been discussing who will start in the position. After all, given the magnitude of the game, perhaps Klopp would want to turn towards the experience of Clyne.

It appears as though a decent portion of the Liverpool fanbase want that to be the case, anyway. We recently ran a poll on the topic, and 62% of Liverpool fans responded in favour of Clyne – whilst just 38% voted in favour of Alexander-Arnold.

Despite the fine form of Alexander-Arnold, it’s fair to say that he didn’t have his best game against Roma last week. As a result, it’s easy to see why fans may be keen to see someone else get a chance.

You can’t forget that he’s still a young player, and he has played a lot of football this season. As a result, a rest this weekend might not be the worst idea.

Still, it will be disappointing for him if he were to not be selected.
