Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are wondering what was the point in Charly Musonda going out on loan to Celtic when he could have earned the same opportunities in SW6 this season.
Former youth academy coach Brendan Rodgers had taken the attacking midfielder on an 18-month loan deal in January with him reportedly giving the Blues reassurances over his game time during his time up in Scotland.
However, since then Musonda has only started two games so far within his first six months and it’s left the regulars in the bar scratching their heads in disbelief over how Rodgers is simply not using a talent like the Belgian is.
Our landlord recalls that this isn’t the first time Rodgers has wasted a loan spell with a Chelsea player, much to the annoyance to the board. If Celtic were not going to utilise Musonda then the Blues have a big pool of talent to choose from, and many of the punters feel that they should have opted for this youngster instead.
OUR VERDICT – ETHAN AMPADU
The Chelsea defender is pulling up trees left, right and centre this season and will be surely sought after in the summer window for a loan move. However, with Celtic’s defence needing a little TLC – the decision to opt for Ampadu over Musonda would have been a beneficial one for Rodgers as he looks to strengthen the back line in the summer.
Ampadu is no doubt a talent and one that could thrive up in the Scottish league, alongside getting a taste for winning trophies.
