Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their club to sign a top striker this summer, with Matej Vydra and Abel Hernandez both heavily linked with a move to Elland Road.
With the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds fans have been treated to a number of exciting transfer rumours but owner Andrea Radrizzani is yet to splash any cash and back his new manager.
Kemar Roofe was Leeds’ top scorer in the Championship last season with just 11 goals and the West Yorkshire club are in the market for an out and out striker who can help them improve on their 13th place finish last time out.
Derby’s Matej Vydra scored 21 league goals last season on his way to securing the golden boot. However, Derby have set a price tag of at least £10M which may price Leeds out of a deal for the Czech forward.
On the other hand, ex-Hull striker Abel Hernandez is available on a free transfer after rejecting a contract with the Tigers. The Uruguayan striker missed most of last season with an Achilles injury but still managed eight goals in 10 matches.
However, one man from League 1 had a scoring record far better than either of those two strikers last season and is ready to make the step up to the Championship.
Peterborough’s Jack Marriott scored 33 goals in 56 matches in all competitions last season. The 23-year-old’s blistering pace and lethal finishing also earned him a nomination for the League 1 Player of the Season award.
Marriott could be the perfect fit for Leeds and has the ability to be a top striker for years to come.
If Leeds are to go for the Englishman they will have to act fast though. Marriott is one of the hottest prospects in league football at the moment and is linked with both Bristol City and Nottingham Forest.
