Former Chelsea hero set for spell with Juventus?

One of our former favourites here in the Football Transfer Tavern has popped up on the radar again. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Didier Drogba is being courted by the Italian Champions Juventus amidst a reported switch in January.

Juventus have long been admirers of the 34-year-old and are looking for a solution to their issues up top and are prepared to wait until the summer for number one target Fernando Llorente – meaning the short-term move for Ivorian striker Drogba is perfect for them.

Drogba is set to leave Shanghai Shenhua in January after months of uncertainty at the Chinese club and is already back training at old stomping ground Chelsea with it understood that he would relish a move back to one of Europe’s top clubs. Given the Champions League final is at one of Drogba’s favourite venues in Wembley, the former Chelsea man must surely have that on his mind whilst he tries to end his Chinese exile.

Over the dart board our landlord discloses that Juve are believed to have offered the player a contract taking him through until the end of the 2013-2014 season, which Drogba is ‘considering carefully’ but ideally the forward plans on holding out for a contract until 2015.

Number one target Llorente is available on a Bosman from the summer and a salary worth 4 million euros per year is close to being finalised with the Old Lady however the Premier League is also an option for Llorente so Drogba may well get his longer deal after all.
