French club step up chase for Beckham

David Beckham’s future is up for conversation here at the Football Transfer Tavern, with Simon Jones of the Daily Mail reckoning his next move may see him link up with former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri at French Ligue 2 outfit Monaco.

Ranieri is backed by a Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, and has also been linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Ranieri believes the pair hold the key to transforming the fortunes of the French club, and is desperate to complete the deals sooner rather than later.

Beckham, 37, is considering his options since leaving MLS side LA Galaxy. Carlo Ancelotti is thought to want to bring him to Paris Saint Germain, although whether he will remain in his job long enough to make the signing remains to be seen.

Ranieri said: ‘Beckham keeps a passion for football, that’s what interests me. It would be helpful in all aspects of the development of the club.

‘He could share his passion with our young players, at 37 years old, he continues to improve and be professional.

‘All young players need an experienced coach but also references in the locker room.’
