French giants set to splash the cash

Here at the Football Transfer Tavern one pint is over and another is poured whilst the conversation turns to a club who are set to break their usual cautious approach in the January transfer window and splash the cash instead.

Sorry Arsenal fans it’s not you, in fact Sky Sports claim that it is French club Marseille who are set to spend this winter, and with the club currently flying high in Ligue  1 more than giving money bags PSG and Lyon a run for their money, investment at this time seems appealing in terms of getting them over the finishing line, in turn mounting a title challenge and achieving Champions League qualification.

Chairman Vincent Labrune admits that whilst the finances at the club “forced” them to sell this time last year, things are now more stable and he disclosed that: “Now our thinking is to hire a couple of players. But we won’t be going mad.”

The priorities for the club who now boast philosopher Joey Barton amongst their players are a goalscorer and a number two keeper and Les Phocéens have begun the process of looking for the players they feel will allow them to kick on and compete with the top clubs both domestically and in Europe once more.
