Fulham are again trying to finalise a deal for FC Twente winger and Belgium international Nacer Chadli. According to The Mail the deal is thought to be worth in the region of £3.5m.
This will be Fulhams third attempt to land the 22 year old after having two bids rejected last summer. It seems Cottagers boss Martin Jol is not easily deterred in his bid to bolster his attacking options, and has maintained contact with the Dutch side.
Chadli, who is Belgian of Moroccan ancestry, first came to the attention of many during his clubs two games against Tottenham in last years Champions League where he scored in each tie. His goalscoring record for Twente is 12 goals in 54 appearances. In internationals for Belgium he has 2 goals in just 7 appearances.
It seems odd that Twente has changed their minds with respect to the value of the winger since last summer however. During the negiotations in August the London club reportedly made an offer of £4.37m for the winger and were told to double it, according to an article in The Independent at the time. Whether the Dutch club are being more realistic, have got a replacement, or the wingers performances have become more inconsistent is anyone’s guess.
Fulham are not the only Premiership outfit to be interested in Chadli reports The Mail article. He has been watched by several clubs including Tottenham. However Chadli’s agent Daniel Evrad has put Fulham fans at ease by saying:
“He has 99 per cent chance of leaving with Fulham as his destination.”
So what would have to happen for that one percent scenario to be realised? One would guess another club would just have to offer more money.
