Obviously here at the Football Transfer Tavern players are our bread and butter, however we also like to keep an eye on managers and one of our favourites is Roberto Di Matteo who despite being unceremoniously axed by Chelsea has no shortage of job offers according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Di Matteo of course lead Chelsea to the biggest trophy of them all as interim manager winning the Champions League and also managed to win the FA Cup, making the players buy into his management style.
He is however being courted by Schalke and Werder Bremen. Both compete in the Bundesliga and in Schalke’s case, are certainly in crisis in the league and have just been knocked out the German Cup, despite qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League (remind you of anyone!).
The Gelsenkirchen-based club would provide an interesting challenge for Di Matteo who is not keen on a return to the Premier League so soon after the debacle at Chelsea with Blues fans still chanting his name and a love for the club still prominent in the Italian’s thoughts.
Being fluent in five languages is certainly something that Di Matteo has under his belt and as Roman Abramovich has seen with one other special managers who he has disposed of after a poor November, he could well go on to bigger and better things.
Do you think Di Matteo should step back into management? Vote in our polls below.
