After scoring both goals including the stoppage time winner in England’s 2-1 win against Tunisia last night, Harry Kane has grabbed all the headlines.
However, Jordan Henderson has also come in for praise with Liverpool fans, of course, quick to highlight their club captain’s performance.
Henderson often comes under criticism for some of his displays in an England shirt, but the Liverpool midfielder impressed in the Three Lions opening game of the World Cup and justified his selection ahead of Tottenham’s Eric Dier.
Manager Gareth Southgate made it clear prior to the Tunisia match that he only wanted to play with one holding midfielder and Henderson, who tends to play more ambitious passes than someone like Dier, for example, has shown he was indeed the suitable choice for the type of encounter England played out against Tunisia.
And while Southgate may go for Dier in England’s last group game against Belgium to give the side more defensive stability against the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, it’s likely to be more beneficial to have Henderson in midfield again when the Three Lions take on Panama on Sunday.
The exact thoughts of Liverpool supporters on Henderson can be found below…
People saying how shocked they’re about Jordan Henderson’s good performance last night only have themselves to blame for jumping on a bandwagon. He’s been fantastic for months & majority of last season.

If you’re still on the bandwagon of slating Jordan Henderson you don’t have a clue about football at a professional level…
Jordan Henderson showed tonight like this season that he’s much more adept at looking forward and picking off a great pass. Time some #lfc fans backed him. He always gives his all. So much of the criticism in my opinion is unjust. His injury might have cost us the league in 2014

Jordan Henderson had a boss game today. Yes, it was against Tunisia, but he did well, was one of the better England players.
I like Naby Keita, Fabihno, AND Jordan Henderson.
Some LFC “lads” w’d say that am no proper “fan” b’se I think Henderson is a good CM.

Despite what Martin Keown chats, Jordan Henderson absolutely ran the show for England tonight and that’s all I care about #LFC
