With Funes Mori out the exit door and Ashley Williams likely to follow, Everton, without doubt, will be on the hunt for defensive reinforcements this summer.
And one man who could be brought in to strengthen that area of the squad is Besiktas’ Domagoj Vida, according to Turkish publication Fanatik. The 29-year-old has put in some decent performances for Croatia in the World Cup, including a solid defensive display against Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
For some Everton supporters, though, the jury is still out on the Croatian centre-half. Not everyone has been left impressed by what Vida –valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt – has done in Russia or at Besiktas.
Coming from a division that isn’t particularly strong such as the Turkish league, Toffees fans would have every right to be sceptical about the possible arrival of Vida. And while the former Dynamo Kyiv man has had a good World Cup, at this moment of time, it’s understandable if the Everton faithful have yet to be convinced by a few good games.
However, the Merseyside club are in desperate need of a new central defender and if Vida fits the bill for manager Marco Silva, then signing the centre-half should be considered.
Everton fans’ thoughts on Vida’s potential transfer to Goodison Park can be found below…
