Marco Van Basten is being tipped to replace Carlo Ancelotti as Chelsea manager this summer. After a trophy less season at The Bridge, it looks as though Roman Abramovich will be looking to bring in some younger and fresher faces into the club, starting with the manager. With Ancelotti resigned to losing his job, speculation has been mounting over a possible replacement with Tuttermarcatoweb reporting that the former Ajax manager is the man for the job.
The future of Ancelotti has been in question for large parts of the season after Chelsea went through a dreadful spell of form in the winter period. Chelsea has since made considerable progression in the league table but have failed to compete to the end after losing out to new champions, Manchester United. The Italian manager did win the Premier League and FA Cup double in his first season at the club but the recurrent theme of chopping and changing managers looks set to continue at Chelsea this summer. Abramovich is believed to be unhappy at yet again not coming anywhere near winning the Champions League which has been a great desire of his since he bought the club.
Marco Van Basten has been targeted by the Chelsea hierarchy to take Chelsea into a new era. Chelsea will face competition for the former Ajax and AC Milan player as he has had offers from clubs such as Sporting Lisbon and Fiorentina according to his agent.
The legendary Dutch forward had a disappointing time as manager of Ajax as he failed to qualify for the Champions League but Abramovich believes the financial resources available he could be a success in the capital. The Russian owner has already made a bad decision this season in parting ways with Ray Wilkins and would be a fool to make the same mistake twice.
Sir Alex Ferguson was nearly sacked after Manchester United came close to relegation in his early years but the club decided to stick him. Quarters of a Century later and Manchester United have just overhauled their Merseyside rivals with 19 League titles and Ferguson’s 12th. If Chelsea want to persist on changing manager when something goes wrong then Abramovich’s dream of winning the Champions League will never become a reality.
