Having impressed (well, as much as was possible) in an underperforming Newcastle team during the relegation campaign of 2015/16, a few regulars in the Transfer Tavern were surprised the Magpies managed to keep hold of Chancel Mbemba last summer.
However, even though they did just that, the DR Congo international has barely featured for Rafa Benitez in the Championship, with just seven appearances to his name as the season enters its closing stages. In fact, his last outing came way back in November during a 1-0 loss at home to Blackburn Rovers.
But, despite his woes, Mbemba is remaining upbeat and today posted a defiant message on Twitter in which he said he is “not giving up” and that he aims to come back stronger than ever:

The 22-year-old’s purchase was part of Newcastle’s underwhelming summer 2015 transfer business that laid the foundations for a poor campaign.
