Is This The Man To ‘Save’ QPR’s Season?

You’re languishing at the foot of the Premier League table, your manager is under pressure, your big summer signings are failing to fire. Who are you going to call? The player manager of a mid-table Chinese Premier League club of course.

Obviously, it does help that they player-manager in question is former Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bolton and Chelsea star Nicholas Anelka.

Reports are suggesting that the Frenchman isn’t too happy in the Chinese Premier League and could be looking for a move back to to the English Premier League, with QPR sniffing around.

The Hoops are the second lowest scorers in the division and could do with a striker who has 123 Premier League goals under his belt.

Thanks  to Tony Fernandes, QPR are a fabulously wealthy club and are one of the few who could afford the wages of Anelka. The Malaysian has not been shy in backing his manager and will not be happy with their position, propping up the other 19 clubs.

Anelka could be just that player who could make a difference with his experience and guile. They have a front line brimming with experience and talent in Andrew Johnson, Djibril Cisse, Bobby Zamora and Jamie Mackie, but the pacy, wide-playing Anelka would offer them something completely different and, should Hughes fancy a 4-3-3 formation, he could fit in well on the left where he played with such distinction for Chelsea.

It remains to be seen whether Fernandes is willing to back his manager further. He has invested a fairly hefty sum in the West London club already and it is a balance as to whether he goes all out to ensure QPR’s survival and risk a hefty wage bill in the Championship or tell Hughes to man up and get his team firing.

Looking at QPR’s squad list, they are brimming with talent, especially in an attacking sense, and it is atrocious that they are where they are in the league. Hughes must feel under some pressure at Loftus Road and this January will be a mark of how much Fernandes backs his manager.

I reckon Anelka would strengthen most teams in the Premier League and, Fernandes willing, he would relish the chance to return to West London.
