It was failed moves galore in La Liga this January

kaka.jpgDiscussion here in the Football Transfer Tavern has moved along to La Liga and despite it being a quiet window in Spain there is still plenty to talk about and Goal.com certainly help things.

The most natural place to begin is the failed attempts of both David Villa and Kaka in leaving their respective clubs. Kaka of course has long been looking for a way back to AC Milan yet totally failed to find one despite offering to take a massive cut in his salary.

Villa’s failed attempt to move was more down to the refusal of his club Barcelona to let him leave. Both the player and Arsenal were keen to find a way to push a move through, yet despite discussions and bids, the Catalan giants were determined to keep the striker until the end of the season.

Whilst these may have been the most high profile sagas in La Liga this winter, we also have to reflect on Alvaro Negredo’s failed move to Everton due to his £15 million price tag and as our landlord points out, this could well be revisited in the summer.

Goalkeepers also proved to be a hot topic of conversation after Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid were forced into the transfer market. Firstly considering Osasuna’s Fernandez before settling on former Castilla player Diego Lopez who was sensational in the Copa Clasico in midweek. Add to this the refusal of Victor Valdes to pen a new deal past 2014 at the Camp Nou and there is certainly column inches to run on these stories before the summer.

Of course the economy in Spain has been badly hit and the money simply is not there to spend – not much movement occurred but what did was certainly entertaining. Do you agree? Let us know your thoughts below.
