Liverpool fans have been caught slightly off guard by reports from Spain suggesting that the Reds are still in hot pursuit of a star attacking midfielder despite comments made all but ending Klopp’s hopes securing a deal.
According to reports emerging from Spain (via Sport Witness) are suggesting that, despite the player expressing a clear desire to stay in France, Jurgen Klopp will not give up his attempts to bring PSG’s Lucas Moura to the Premier League.
Spanish newspaper Sport have claimed that the Reds ‘will not surrender for the Brazilian’ that ‘Jurgen Klopp will not relent on Moura’.
These reports come after the 23-year-old made his intentions to remain in Paris quite clear, telling L’Equipe:
“I keep the same mentality to help the team. I want to play and start, as all players do. I’m not different,
“I’ll give everything to start. There will be competition but I can help the team a lot.”
When pressed over a move away from the French champions, he added: “No, I’m happy here. I love the club and Paris,
“I have said I want to stay here and write my story, but it also depends on the club. If they want me to stay, I will stay.”
It would appear then that the Reds boss will have to pull out all the stops in order to persuade Unai Emery and the powers that be at the Parc Des Princes, to part company with the Brazilian winger.
Klopp has already added one attacking midfielder to his squad, bringing Southampton’s Sadio Mane to Merseyside for a fee of £34m and it looks as if the club will have to part with a similar amount of money to acquire Lucas, who is valued at just shy of £30m.
