Reports in Italy claim that Juventus are in pole position to sign Manchester City’s problem striker Carlos Tevez. The Turin giants were keen on Tevez in the summer but failed to come to any sort of agreement.
Tevez’s disrespectful behaviour for the past few months has been a very evident negative amongst such a time of positive change for City. In many ways, their performance as a club both on and off the field has elevated their status. Tolerating a player with the sort of selfish attitude Tevez has displayed is simply intolerable for Roberto Mancini as he strives to earn City the respect he feels his side deserves.
During the transfer window, Brazilian club Corinthians who failed to secure the funds to push through a deal for Tevez, claimed that Juventus had offered £45m for the former Manchester United forward, but these reports were subsequently refuted. What is certain however is that Juventus will not be bidding anywhere near that amount with all involved at City seeming to desire a transfer.
This season’s unbeaten start to the season sees Juventus lead Serie A after four games, with many observers suggesting Juve will rival champions and Sunday’s opponents AC Milan for the title. Having shown willingness to splash the cash in the summer, a cut price move for Tevez is easily within their means.
Bookmakers William Hill have made Juventus 11/4 favourites to secure the Argentine’s signature, ahead of Corinthians, AC Milan, Inter and Real Madrid.
