It’s been an up and down transfer window for Leeds this summer.
With the introduction of Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds fans were excited by the prospect of having one of the best coaches in world football.
The Argentinian manager is widely renowned for his progressive, attacking style of football and based on the first game of the season, Leeds fans might be in for an exciting season up ahead.
In terms of transfers, Leeds only managed to bring in five players to the club one of whom, Barry Douglas, started the club’s opening day game against Stoke, where Leeds blitzed Gary Rowett’s side to win 3-1.
In terms of departures, the club only let four players leave, all on loan but apparently it could’ve been more.
According to Football Insider, West Brom had a late deadline day bid for defender, Luke Ayling rejected.
Leeds were adamant that the defender will not leave the club yesterday or even before the end of the loan transfer window, especially not to a league rival.
Joining the club in 2016 from Bristol City, Ayling has established himself as one of the club’s best and most consistent players.
The right-back has made 75 appearances for the club since then and has since signed a new contract at the club to keep him there until 2021.
A solid defender who’s also capable of going forward, Ayling proved on Saturday that he can be the dynamic fullback that Bielsa likes.
Regardless of Leeds’ relative lack of incomings, keeping Ayling was an essential piece of business from the club.
