Leicester City go into the new season with one of the stars of the summer’s World Cup on their books in Harry Maguire, with the big defender putting in some superb performances for the Three Lions over in Russia.
However, with those performances has come a whole host of interest from some of the top clubs in the world, and the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and even Real Madrid have all registered some sort of interest in the former Sheffield United man.
With this interest, it’s looking more and more likely that the Foxes will indeed be forced into a sale of their star man. However, we here at the Tavern think that Leicester could soon find a decent enough replacement.
One player who might well slot into the void iss Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, who might well be included any deal United look to complete for Maguire.
Smalling has been a mainstay of the United team for a few seasons now, but is no longer guaranteed a start under Jose Mourinho, with the likes of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly ahead of him in the pecking order, and a young Victor Lindelof continuing to improve.
However, Smalling remains a seasoned Premier League performer, and despite not quite being at the level of Maguire, he would be an assured signing for the Foxes if indeed they need a short term fix for the potentially departing Maguire.
Leicester fans, what do you think? Would Smalling be a good fit? Let us know in the comments!
