Everyone in the Football Transfer Tavern is keen to hear where David Villa will be ending up this January, and the Mail Online have sensationally reported that Liverpool have had a loan move for the player rejected.
Whilst it has long been rumoured in the Spanish press that Villa is unhappy with a bit part role at the club after returning to the side after a lengthy spell out with serious injury, Barcelona are still reluctant to let the player leave.
The Catalan giants are aware that without Villa they only have one centre forward in Alexis Sanchez, and despite having Lionel Messi at their disposal, Tito Vilanova’s side are not happy about letting Villa leave – especially on loan. It had been claimed that Chelsea were set to bid for the forward, yet Liverpool have seemingly got in their first with a loan bid which has been snubbed by the club.
Barcelona would be willing to let the player leave for around £16 million, yet just who would pay this is now doubtful with Liverpool already close to completion on the Daniel Sturridge deal with Chelsea in for Demba Ba and Arsenal usually small spenders in the winter transfer window.
Despite still being one of the best forwards around, Villa cannot get into the Barcelona side and has only netted five times this season.
