Rafa Benitez continues his attempt to raid the Premier League as talkSPORT reveal in the Football Transfer Tavern that Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva could be on his way to join his former manager in January.
The Brazilian international has been rumoured to link up with his former coach since the summer, and has suggested he could be open to a move to the Italian side.
Benitez initially signed the 27-year-old during his spell at Liverpool and has a good chance of signing him again as he has been in and out of the first team and is very much considered as a second choice.
Although Lucas is not one of Liverpool’s most valuable midfielders, punters feel it is important that they keep hold of him, because he is an experienced holding player who also provides good cover for the ageing Steven Gerrard.
But Brendan Rodgers will have a task on his hands if he is to try and keep him.
“Over the summer there was interest from Napoli, along with other clubs,” said Lucas.
“Benitez has again asked to sign me. My objective for now is to play consistently. We’ll see in future.”
