There’s a few surprised looks around the snooker table as punters gather round an article from Mirror Football claiming that Liverpool are considering a summer move for Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
The 24-year-old has had a difficult season in Manchester after a host of injuries limited his appearances in the first team to just four matches however John Cross from the Mirror reports that City are still going to be reluctant to let him leave after eight dedicated years with the club.
Richards was once regarded as City’s first choice right back but Pablo Zabaleta has succeeded him as the Citizens won their first Premier League title and the Etihad Stadium outfit have put a £15 million price tag on his services despite his peripheral presence.
Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers like the fact he is still young, versatile and offers pace but he would be faced with competition for a place at Anfield given the large number of full backs already on their books.
The Anfield club may also have to beat off interest from both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in their pursuit for the England international with Arsene Wenger a long-term admirer of Richards who he believes could add a new dynamic to his defence at the Emirates Stadium.
