Reports are suggesting London rivals QPR and Fulham are both interested in signing Newcastle’s Danny Simpson as contract talks hit the rocks.
Simpson played a crucial role in Newcastle’s tremendous campaign last term and was very much the Geordie clubs first choice right back. Simpson performed well in a team which achieved much acclaim last season with some people suggesting Simpson’s form should have meant an international call-up.
Despite everything looking rosy on the outside things have been a much darker shade of grey on the inside. The right back looks likely to end a 3 year spell at St.James’ Park and with his contract due to expire next summer it seems Newcastle are interested in selling him this summer for a reported £4m than letting him walk away on a free next summer.
The 25-year-old apparently favours a move to London with a source stating:
“Danny will see where the land lies when he returns from holiday. If he does leave Newcastle then London would be a real attraction for him”.
However, with the appointment of Chris Hughton – who signed Simpson for Newcastle – at Norwich City could a move to Norfolk be on the cards?
Newcastle seem to be turning their attention to Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy, currently with France at Euro 2012, as a replacement for Simpson.
