The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been dancing on the pool tables since yesterday afternoon. Indeed, with the club confirming their agreement to bring Brazilian international midfielder Fred to Old Trafford this summer, our resident Red Devils cannot stop smiling.
Well, reports in the Daily Mail have only added to the excitement. Within their piece detailing the aforementioned agreement with Fred, they claim that West Ham United stark Marko Arnaoutovic has been discussed by the club as a potential signing this summer.
Previous links with the Austrian came as a surprise no doubt, however the idea of seriously discussing him behind the scenes has proven rather interesting. While he’s not the biggest name in the world, the former Stoke City did impress towards the back end of last season and his obvious qualities would go some way into properly backing up Romelu Lukaku.
The Hammers themselves are thought to want around £50m for him, which may make any deal more difficult to do, though Arnautovic would certainly take the pressure off of Lukaku and it would be interesting to see what he does with better players around.
Arnautovic would certainly be a smart signing, if they can get him at the right price. £50m would be far too expensive, though surely he’d jump at the chance to move to Old Trafford at this stage of his career. Having worked with Jose Mourinho before, it would be a smart move at the right price.
