David McDonnell of the Daily Mirror is in the Football Transfer Tavern today, with some very unsurprising news; Manchester City are set to spend more money this transfer window. This news barely provokes a reaction from the punters and I’m pretty certain one old boy at the end of the bar fell asleep.
The player David has suggested the blue half of Manchester are after is Real Madrid’s £15 million rated centre back Pepe; now this rumour has surfaced in the ‘Transfer Tavern’ before but this time David believes the move could really happen.
Pellegrini was asked about the reported interest in the 30-year-old defender but this is all the new City boss had to say:
“I don’t speak about rumours. I think today we have the players that we need here.
“I just said that we will see what happens in this month and during August.
“But I’m not talking about specific names because it’s better for us, so I don’t talk about Pepe or any other names.”
Oh hang on…sorry about that a City fan clearly doesn’t want Pepe and started throwing peanuts at David and shouting “Nastasic is all we need”.
Although I don’t condone the peanut thrower’s actions, he does have a point. With Pellegrini having Joleon Lescott, Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic already to choose from, is Pepe what City need? Or perhaps the time is up for a former Everton defender?
David refused to answer our questions. Can’t blame him, Saturday is his day off.
