Everton boss David Moyes will launch a bid for Tottenham’s Niko Kranjcar this week with a view to a season-long loan deal for the player.
Moyes is desperate to bolster his squad before the season opener against Spurs and would be delighted to sign the Croatian.
With doubt hanging over the future of fellow Croatian Luka Modric, Harry Redknapp would be loath to see Kranjcar go, especially with the midfielder being one of manager’s favourite players.
However, having both followed him to Tottenham from Portsmouth and then settled for a long spell on the sidelines at White Hart Lane, Redknapp has made it clear he would not stand in Kranjcar’s way if the Croatian wished to leave.
It remains to be seen whether Redknapp would be prepared to sanction a loan deal to one of Tottenham’s league rivals. Many believe Everton and Tottenham will be fighting it out for 6th place in the league this year, with both teams hoping for much higher finishes.
Though Everton’s pre-season preparations have been promising for fans with the emergence of starlet Ross Barkley, as well as a near-fully fit Louis Saha and Marouane Fellaini performing well, Moyes would see Kranjcar’s addition as an excellent signing.
Another potential loan deal for the Toffees could see Chelsea and England forward Daniel Sturridge move to Goodison. Sturridge finds himself behind Drogba, Torres, Anelka and now Romelo Lukaku at Stamford Bridge and will see this as a good chance to impress before the European Championships.
