Neville To Spurs? Croatian To Merseyside? Closer Than You Might Think…

The latest news coming out involves talks about one player in, one out and another to be used as back up in the Tottenham defence.

Now as we all know, Tottenham’s defensive record this season has been terrible. Their gung-ho approach has seen them ship 40 goals in all competitions this season already.

Harry Redknapp see’s a change up at right back in particular to sure things up a little better. Substitute Vedran Corluka looks to be on his way out with Liverpool keen admirers of the Croatian international, Alan Hutton looks set to drop to the bench with Everton captain Phil Neville set to come in.

Now Alan Hutton is by a long way better than Phil Neville going forward, but defensively is the England man better? Neville played well against Tottenham on Wednesday up against Gareth Bale and he is a very versatile player which could come in use. Spurs still have two youngsters who are set to have bright futures in the game and they are both currently out on loan, both Kyle’s, Naughton and Walker.

In my opinion I feel Phil Neville is not a player Tottenham should take. Yes Alan Hutton struggles defensively but there is no questioning his ability going forward, especially as his crosses are more effective than Aaron Lennon’s. If Spurs were to replace the Scotsman, then I feel they should look elsewhere at say Andoni Iraola from Athletic Bilbao? Or Gregory van der Wiel of Ajax? Not Phil Neville.

Corluka’s exit from Spurs would mean a possible transfer out of Liverpool for Glen Johnson who as we all know is a defensive worry for England as well as his club team.

Who knows what the future holds for the Premier League right-backs, but I feel both Hutton and Corluka have more to offer Tottenham than Phil Neville would if he was to join.
