Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is desperate to sign another striker this summer and the Transfer Tavern finds it hard to disagree, as reported by Sky Sports.
The former West Ham and Southampton boss has had his hands tied this summer after the arrival of Joe Kinnear in the North East and owner Mike Ashely has put the unpopular former Toon boss in charge of transfers.
One player who has arrived at St James’ Park is Loic Remy on loan from Queens Park Rangers but the Frenchman has already picked up a knock and will be out for a month.
Papiss Cisse appears to have overcome his issue with wearing Wonga on his shirt, but he remains the main striker in a small United squad.
The North East club missed out on target Darren Bent this week and boss Pardew knows how vital it is to bring in another forward.
“It’s important we get another striker in,” said Pardew.
“Last year we were shy of strikers especially after Demba Ba left, and we need to make sure we have a sound back-room in terms of strikers.
“It’s always frustrating in the transfer market but we’ve got a strong squad and we did some business last January which put us in good fettle because the six months of experience they got will stand them in good stead.
“I think the figures the top clubs are paying out is ridiculous. We can’t compete with them on a financial level so we have to be as clever and shrewd as we can, and get players in of the same quality but for a lot less money.”
