Newcastle fans are getting a bit excited with all the gossip for them today in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by The Sun that the club are closing in on PSV keeper Jeroen Zoet.

The stopper will cost Alan Pardew and his board around £2.25 million and has been on the radar of the club for some time now. Needing back up for Tim Krul, Pardew has been keen on signing the star and looks to finally be getting his man this summer. The 22 year old is deemed surplus to requirements at the Dutch club who are trying to raise funding in order to bring former keeper Heurelho Gomez back - a player who Premier League fans will remember well for his eventful time at White Hart Lane.

Magpies fans seem to be having a good time of it this week, with the future of forward Papiss Cisse now sorted out after the player agreed to climb down on his stance over the shirt sponsor Wonga and has now agreed to wear the shirt. Transfer wizard Joe Kinnear will also be looking to have some say in the signings for the club this summer and given the fact he has a host of top managers on speed dial, as one of our punters quips, we are shocked Newcastle have not made any bigger signings.
