Alan Pardew hopes to maintain his side’s resurgent form in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Mirror reveal that he plans to hijack Celtic’s attempt to land Lassana Diarra, who is available on a free.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea player arrived in Scotland to have talks with Celtic last Friday, but the talks were held up as his old club, Lokomotiv Moscow, did not release his registration.
Giving Pardew the opportunity to jump in on the deal and try to lure him to St James’ Park with the attraction of Premier League football.
It is thought Celtic were planning to tie him down on a two year deal but the Frenchman supposedly would prefer a short term deal and Pardew is willing to offer him a contract until the end of the season.
But some Newcastle fans fear that he could become a potential replacement for Cheick Tiote, who is linked with a move away from Newcastle.
Tiote is still contracted to the club until 2017 but this has not put clubs off of wanting to sign him, with Arsenal and Napoli both highly interested.
