Newcastle Ready to Seal £2m Deal for England Striker

Cardiff’s Jay Bothroyd started the season as a man who would be very unlikely to see Premier League action ever again, well unless The Bluebirds get promoted.

How things do change with a few goals though, Bothroyd won all the plaudits for in October as he picked up the ‘Player of the Month Award’ having struck 15 times in just 19 apps. Then, in November, the 28-year-old was handed an England call-up when Fabio Capello’s side faced France at Wembley. Bothroyd looked decent as a second-half substitute, adding to his growing reputation.

Now, it would seem that Newcastle boss, Alan Pardew, is ready to offer £2million for his services. According to North-east paper, The Chronicle, the Tyneside club are ready to offer a straight-cash deal to prize the former Blackburn Rovers player away from the Welsh outfit.

Bothroyd is out-of-contract in the summer and Cardiff may be willing to sell him now in order to avoid losing him for free. However, Cardiff boss, Dave Jones may be unwilling to lose his first-choice striker in a push for promotion. The financial rewards of reaching the Premier League far outweigh the £2million offered by Newcastle and potential promotion may encourage the 28-year-old to pen a new deal with Cardiff.

Dave Jones has also cast doubts on any of his stars leaving The Bluebirds and so far indicated that “nobody of any note” would be leaving the club during the current window.

Bothroyd is valued at around £2.5million and it may take an improved bid to take the striker to St. James’ Park. Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Birmingham’s Sebastian Larsson and a deal is expected to take place during the current window.
