With the news here in the Football Transfer Tavern that Demba Ba is set to leave Newcastle United imminently, the question of who could replace him just keeps coming up and The Sun have been kind enough to answer it for us.
They claim that Alan Pardew is looking to West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie to replace Ba who has netted 13 times for the Magpies already this season. Currently flourishing in the Midlands under former Chelsea coach Steve Clarke., the player is reportedly unhappy at the club, and despite still having 18 months remaining on his deal, he is looking for a way out.
It is believed that the player will cost around £3 million with the Baggies keen to capitalise on the Nigerian’s supposed unhappiness by cashing in now before his value plummets any further when his contract comes to an end. The striker almost joined a Qatari-based side last summer but this deal broke down at the last minute.
West Brom are not short of forwards and are willing to cope without Odemwingie, and with Newcastle desperate to steady the ship and bring in a striker as soon as possible, it seems that this is a deal that may just happen this January transfer window.
