Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been dismayed every time they have watched their side so far this season, and suffered even more anguish when goalkeeper Tim Krul was injured on international duty playing for Holland.
However reports in the Mirror today state that Newcastle are set to receive a substantial sum of money from the Dutch football federation in compensation for the absence of the 27-year old ‘keeper who will be out until around August of next year.
Krul ruptured an anterior cruciate knee ligament playing for Holland in a Euro 2016 qualifying game against Kazakhstan, and the injury will come as a major blow for Newcastle.
The amount of compensation Newcastle are likely to get is calculated according to what the player earns after “temporary disablement in an international match”.
Manager Steve McClaren will now have to turn to either Rob Elliot or Karl Darlow to cover Krul in goal, as the club look to climb off the bottom of the league table, having not won a single one of their eight league games so far this season!
