Norwich City fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate to see their team avoid relegation this season not just for obvious reasons, as according to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, relegation would see the clubs move for Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel fail.
The forward is due to join the Canaries in the summer after the club struck an £8.6 million agreement for the player with Sporting Lisbon.
But it is understood that van Wolfswinkel, who is due to sign a contract with the club on 1st July, has a clause in his contract that allows him to pull out of the move should Chris Hughton’s side suffer relegation.
Van Wolfswinkel has been a long-term target for the Canaries, and Hughton believes his signing will really help Norwich to push on next season.
His side currently sit in 14th place, just four points above the drop zone with just five games to play.
The striker spoke in March about the prospect of joining the club having finished talks with Hughton.
“The club is in the middle of the table and very ambitious, this summer they will be debt free and will get on strong,” Van Wolfswinkel told Dutch magazine Voetbal International.
“I had a good talk with the manager, Chris Hughton. He was very specific about my qualities and wants to build a strong team around him. That gives good trust.
‘That a club would spend so much money, in these times, shows their faith in me,” he said.
