Punters in the Football Transfer Tavern watched opened mouthed as Sky Sports News reported that Peter Odemwingie’s move to QPR had collapsed and this was after the striker took the rather usual route of driving to London to speak to the club.
According to Mail Online, the West Bromwich Albion forward left the Baggies training ground in the belief that the two clubs had struck a deal over a £3 million transfer which would see his contract massively increased.
However the move stalled when Junior Hoilett decided to remain with QPR and things took an interesting turn when Albion released a statement which said: ‘The club can confirm they have held further discussions with QPR but those talks have so far proved fruitless and no agreement has been reached. Albion would also like to make clear that Peter has not been given permission to speak to QPR about a potential move.”
Not that it prevented Odemwingie speaking to the television camera at Lotfus Road as though he was about to sign for the Hoops.
“I am optimistic,’ said the 31-year-old striker. ‘A few good players have arrived here and I am happy with the trust Harry Redknapp has in me. The last few results have given us a chance to stay up. I don’t think the owners will bring in so many players if they don’t think it will happen. I hope West Brom are happy with what they will get and they hope to get players.”
However he didn’t even get through the door at Loftus Road after lawyers prevented him and was heading back to The Hawthorns with his tail well and truly between his legs.
It will be certainly interesting to see what happens with the striker now and a possible move to Russia may be the ideal solution given the Russian transfer window still remains open.
