Liverpool allowed Manchester City to take over at the top of the table after only managing a 0-0 draw with Everton this afternoon.
A stale attacking display from the Reds meant no goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side at Goodison Park, and it once again brought questions to the fore about the club’s decision to not make any new signings in the January transfer window.
The summer is going to be a big time for the Reds then, and we here in the Tavern feel that the club need to be going out to bring in a new striker above all else.
That’s why we think Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez might well prove to be a shrewd signing by the Reds if they can capture him.
The 21-year-old only made his move to Europe in the summer, but already he has shown he is more than capable of turning in top performances, and he’d be an able deputy or even replacement for Roberto Firmino.
Martinez has all the attributes to be a class act in his career, and with Liverpool needing forwards, he’d be the ideal signing.
The likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are never going to be good enough to take Liverpool to the next level, but Martinez might well be the man who can come in and make a big difference to proceedings at Anfield.
Liverpool fans, what do you think? Would this be a good long term signing? Let us know in the comments!
