Soon to be out of contract Michael Owen may be moving to German club Schalke 04 in search of first team football.
The 30-year-old Manchester United striker has struggled with fitness over the past few years and rarely gets more than a run out for the red devils since his arrival at the start of last season.
Liverpool have often been linked with rekindling their love for the ex-red but the surprise move to Manchester United certainly reduced any chance of an Anfield return in the future.
Under pressure Schalke boss Felix Magath will be keen for a goalscorer at the moment given his teams poor form. Magath, who once led Wolfsberg to the top of the table, will not be happy laguishing 15th in the Brundesliga and may look to Owen’s prolific nature as a solution to his problems.
With Owen’s contract due to expire in June 2011, the former England hotshot will be keen to use that chance to move to a club where he can expect more than 5 minutes on the pitch. Sir Alex may just be tempted to accept a cash offer in January before the Ex-Real Madrid star can leave for free.
If Owen leaves for Schalke, he will become the third former Real Madrid striker to join the club this year following the signings of Spanish legend Raul and Dutch ace Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
