Pardew & Hodgson Scrap Over Spurs Reject

Not so long ago we brought you murmerings linking former Spurs flop Adel Taarabt with a remarkably unlikely move to Chelsea, that rumour was hardly met with glowing positivity from the customers here in the Tavern.

Today the Moroccan winger is being linked again with a move to the Premier League, but this time the clubs in question seem much more likely.  It is believed that Newcastle and West Brom are going head to head for the silky midfielder.

Taarabt came through the youth set up at Lens and quickly made a move to the Premier League when he was 18.  Much was expected of the tricky dribbler when he moved to White Hart Lane, however over the course of 3 seasons he only managed 16 appearances for the club and most of these were only fleeting.

Towards the end of the 08-09 season Taarabt joined QPR on loan so that he could get some first team action, he returned to the club for the following season, and he excelled in the Championship.  At the end of that loan period in August 2010 Taarabt signed on a permanent basis for around £1million signing a 3 year deal.

He has gone on to be a vital part of the sides promotion push, QPR currently sit on top of the Championship and look certainties for promotion, that is providing they are not docked points for recent off the field problems that are troubling the side.  Taarabt is a determined and ambitious player and in the past has talked about playing for one of the biggest sides in Europe, it would therefore seem reasonable that if QPR were to miss out on promotion due to being docked points that the Moroccan may look to move even though he signed merely 12 months ago.

Of the clubs that are eyeing the player, I think the winger could offer something to both.  With the Baggies it is obviously important they should survive the drop themselves, but if they do, I can see the flying winger offering them a lot in next seasons campaign.  West Brom have a hard working team and Roy Hodgson is spending a lot of time trying to organise their defense, but they do lack someone with the ability to beat a man and that is something that Taarabt could do in his sleep.

Newcastle too maybe lack something in wide areas, and again he could be a great addition to their side.  The idea of having a fully fit Hatem Ben Arfa on one wing and Taarabt on the other may offer something particularly threatening going forward.  He is the sort of player that would definitely appeal to the Geordie fans and I believe he would fit in well at St James’ Park.

The player has claimed himself that Manchester United are also interested, I don’t necessarily buy that myself but I can see West Brom or Newcastle moving for the player this Summer if QPR don’t achieve promotion themselves.  If Rangers do make it to the Premiership, the winger may be tempted to give it a go with his current club, he is their captain afterall, but either way there could be clubs in the lower half of the top flight tabling bids for the tricky wideman this Summer.
